This handsome villa was built
by a well-known Cote d’Azur architect in the style of
a small chateau with Provencal influences and a splendid tower.
It is in an idyllic setting, built on high ground, backed by
oak forests and open protected countryside with a profusion
of wild flowers, and enjoys simply stunning views of the sea.
It is set in a beautiful mature garden, part of which is formal
and leads down, past a little pond and waterfall, to the swimming
pool terrace. There is also a stream leading to a larger pond.
The woodland garden (where one can enjoy a myriad of flowers,
flowering shrubs and highly unusual specimen trees - some dating
back several hundreds years) is left untouched in order to protect
the wild flowers and orchids. The interior of the house has
an imposing grand staircase, vaulted ceilings, 15th, 16th and
17th Century wooden doors & cabinets, and hand-made tiles
from Salernes. The décor throughout is light, cool and
elegant, with subdued Provencal colours. It is most beautifully
and appropriately furnished with a combination of antique and
modern furniture and an eclectic selection of artefacts and
objets d‘art collected on the owners’ extensive
travels. Everything is of top quality from the teak deck chairs
on the terrace to the ornate masonry and kitchen equipment (the
owners are both gourmet cooks!)
This is a wonderful property in a wonderful setting –
and whilst the only sound you can hear is that of birdsong
– you are close to the excitement of the Riviera. The
coast is 25 minutes away at Cap d’Antibes and Cannes
and Nice are only 30 minutes. Inland is the beautiful countryside
and numerous medieval hilltop fortress towns including Opio,
St. Paul de Vence, Tourettes sur Loup and Mougins, a gourmets
treat! (Do visit Gourdon, but only if you have a head for
heights!). Equally you can visit the other well-known Riviera
resorts such as Cap Ferrat, Monaco and Monte Carlo. There
are several golf courses in the immediate area, riding and
tennis also available nearby. Nice Airport is 30 minutes away.
