This charming 17th Century Tudor
cottage is approached by a drive through unspoilt woodland and
is surrounded by a beautifully maintained, mature two acre garden.
The interior is heavily beamed with both vertical and horizontal
beams. As is typical of a property of this period, ceilings
and doorways are low in places but being several cottages combined
to create a single home, the space on the ground floor is greater
than average. The furniture is a combination of gleaming antiques,
comfortable high quality soft furnishings and, in the sitting
room/play room extension, bright modern fabrics - all of which
typify the American owner’s excellent taste and the care
she has taken to complement the atmosphere of the cottage of
which she is so rightly proud. The kitchen and utility rooms
are well-kept and equipped, often with American equipment.
Based here in this quiet oasis it is difficult to believe you
are only one hour’s drive from central London. You are
also ideally placed to tour some of the most beautiful, diverse
and interesting areas of England. Ascot is on the doorstep and
the Cotswolds; Stratford-upon-Avon; Oxford; Bath; Windsor Castle;
Blenheim Castle; Southern England, the rolling Downs, the cathedral
city of Winchester; the Thames and Chilterns with the pretty
Thames villages such as Goring, Wallingford and Henley-on-Thames
are within one hour, while the cathedral city of Salisbury and
the New Forest are just a little over. In the immediate vicinity
there are riding stables just 3 miles away, and tennis courts
just one mile away. Royal Berkshire is home to some of the choicest
golf courses, e.g. The Berkshire and Sunningdale, with Wentworth
just next door. This cottage, both in terms of accommodation
and location is a gem. |
